10 Things I've Learning from Teaching

10 Things I've Learned From Teaching {Linky Party} hosted by Miss Kindergarten

I lose track on how many years of teaching but should be around 10 years.
I've learned many things from my experiences.
Here it goes!!!

1. Make friends with the office staff and janitor. I'm always sending chocolate up to the ladies up front when I need a last minute copy. They are too good to me.

2. You can never have enough glue sticks, clorox wipes, zip-lock bags, and page protectors.

3. When you really want to get their attention .... whisper. Whispering is more effective than raising your voice.

4. Parents and students really don't care how much you know until you show them how much you care!

5. You can never have enough books.

6. Beg, Borrow and Steal... there are some wonderful resources out there... no need to recreate the wheel. Many teachers are willing to share!

7. Find a mentor teacher... They have a wealth of knowledge. You would be surprised at all of their bag of tricks they have up their sleeve.

8. Balance is a key... You will hear new techniques or new ideas but really they are just new names to some tried and true practices. You can't do it all.

9. Every day is a new experience... You have to let each day end and start over fresh the next day. If something doesn't work out just right you have tomorrow.

10. Listen to your students... they have some really neat ideas and can teach you so much. Take time to truly listen.

Sunday Smorgasbord

I hope your Sunday is full of rest. I try to get my sleep on the weekends. I definitely just woke up. YIKES. I'm linking up with Fabulous in First to share a little bit of random. Who am I kidding... it's a lot of random.

Missing Fall. Can't wait to go to the Mountains during Fall Break.

We can't trick or treat or dress up at our school but the Pre-K can. What about you?

This is our sweet Maggie. She's 13 years old. She's really not loving Cooper. Cooper is pictured below. He just appeared in our yard one day.

Name Change. We had named him Brooks but my niece had a hard time saying Brooks so we changed it to Cooper. Well now she calls him Pooper. OH. WELL!
Cooper is destroying our house but we don't mind.

This is Alison. We spent hours at Panera working on our Monday Made It. We can't wait to show it off.

Love Mellow Mushroom.... Pizza is my second favorite...
Mexican would be the first!

So excited to use this! This is our first dyson. Hope they are worth the money. Just opened up a Target Debit card so I could save 5 %.

Love this scent. I'm into candles but Mr. Nelson said they are full of chemicals.
I still like them anyway!

Behavior Beads!!! So what is a behavior bead? Well, these are a MUST in the classroom!!! Students LOVE earning and collecting these colorful tags/beads. If you want to call attention to your students for a varieties of reasons such as good behavior, when it’s their birthday, or when they master their sight words then these are the perfect incentives. Well, if you want to call attention to your students for turning in homework then these are the perfect incentives. I’ve decided to make some simple “behavior beads” (badges, charms) for students to earn and collect. This is a set of “BADGES” to give to your kiddos for turning in homework. There are 18 designs. ALL DESIGNS ARE ON ONE PAGE.  You just print as many of students you have. This helps if you have a small or large class. If this is a HUGE problem then purchase a custom pack and you can pick which 3 designs you want on a sheet. :)

If you are interested in other tags please visit my store.
I have custom designs and many more.

I'm guessing you might already own this packet. It's my most viewed blog post but if not
it is 50% off for today only. Thank you for all of the support.

Tons of options!

7 inches wide
This transportation display will serve as a quick reference for you, your students, or a sub. At the end of the school day, it can get pretty hectic if there are any changes in transportation. If you have a sub and forget to make an updated list it is sometimes really confusing. Using clothespins or magnets makes it super easy to update and document any last minute transportation changes. You may attach these signs to the wall or use ribbon.
I sometime even put a sticky note right beside the new transportation of the day. The possibilities are endless.
You have lots of options(over 106 ) to print AND you can add your own handwriting below. I have provided lots of different icons to hopefully fit your needs.
Clip art choices
Bus, two different bike choices, walkers, multiple car choices, tutoring, apple, sun, ladybug, owl, bee, student on jungle gym, daycare,YMCA,after school, tutoring, blank circle
*******You will only need to print the ones you need. I tried to give a variety of options.********

Saturday Snapshots

Here are some snapshots of my week. I apologize ... I  really don't have any fabulous photography tips this week except for ... start snapping.   Did you know you can embed your instagram videos and pictures into your blog? It's super easy and very fast.  Just click on the photo or video in instagram and you will see three little dots in the right hand corner. Once you click on the dots embed is an option. I've been so busy lately with blogging, common core training, and of course watching these little pumpkins that I haven't had time to pull out my DSLR camera. My cell phone gets used on a daily basis. I'll make up for my lack of photos next week.

Made a new necklace holder...very easy to do

I'm obsessed with vinyl . Can't wait to show you some more stuff  on Monday Made It.

Thinking about taking a short trip to here... any guesses where I took this pic?

Went to my husband's 20 year High School Reunion Friday night.

Do you find the time to teach kindness with all the demands of testing? When I first started teaching,

I didn't know where to begin. Luckily, I found some wonderful books that changed my classroom. I started teaching lessons on kindness but more importantly I taught kindness by example.

I started passing out little happy notes that shared positive quotes and motivational messages. I would pass out happy notes to students who were having a rough day or just because! Motivating students with these happy notes were simple and effective. The happy notes inspired my students to be kind and spread a smile. This year students will a pass out happy notes around school. Their job will be to make the world a happier place by spreading smiles and happy notes. They will learn to pay it forward because keeping the notes will NOT help the smiles grow. How fun would it be to mail seeds of happiness and happy notes to distant family members and ask them to mail their favorite positive quotes back or better yet another classroom? Think ... Flat Stanley Pays It Forward.

This set includes 28 happy note designs. I recommend printing on cardstock for durability. You could even laminate.

This packet was created as an ongoing project designed for students to complete themselves or with the help of a teacher or classroom volunteer. It is a wonderful way to provide students with a yearbook or portfolio of their work . While many of the activities are geared towards K-3 the activities can be modified for just about any child or grade level. Basically each month students will document their journey as a learner. I like to have a volunteer call back three students at a time. If I was short with time I would do it whole group. The main goal of this project is creativity and documenting their learning memories.
Students may write notes, draw pictures, add color, add stickers, etc. You may also add real photographs in the space provided. I like to document their journey with photographs matted on scrapbook paper.

Students will answer fill in the blank and open-ended questions on topics such as: All About Me, The First Day, A Favorites page, Best field trip, Favorite Special, Best Memory, Lunch, Recess, Friends, When I grow up, Holidays, Events such as 100th day, MLK. Jr, Seasons, and more! You may use parts of this packet or the entire packet.
