Hope everyone has had a great week so far! I've been rearranging furniture the past two days. We have a teacher work day Friday and NO school Monday. Yipee! This will give me plenty of time to set up some new giveaways. You should see the fun items I picked up at the Atlanta Gift Mart this past weekend. I have some really fun items to give away so keep checking back.
I need HELP!
I'm in the process of setting up my new home office. New carpets, new furniture and a new I-MAC. I'm so use to my pc. I need to learn the shortcuts soon. Any tips? I'm really missing the right click on the mouse. If you leave me a tip... I'll enter you into a drawing for $10 to my tpt store.
Need some MLK resources- You should check out Teaching Heart. Need a cute graphic organizer? Check out Latoya Reed's free MLK packet here.
I am such a mac girl (home and school) that the dual click always confuses me on a PC! I think you will come to enjoy the "one click" mouse.
ReplyDeleteHere's my tip: 1. you can set up user accounts to keep your personal and work stuff separate. SO, you could make one log in for Miss Nelson and it could be blog/TPT stuff. You could make a different one for vacation photos, tax returns and whatnot. Then when you were searching for something specific, you wouldn't be looking through everything on your computer each time.

We love macs at our house! We can right click with our mouse... We have a Magic Mouse where it's not connected though. With the same mouse we can scroll without moving the mouse at all.
ReplyDeleteYou can drag images from one window to another...Go to the Shelf on the bottom, go to your browser(Safari) and open new window...hold image down and drag and let go.
ReplyDeleteYou will catch on very quickly!!!!! I love my MAC book.
The school I teach at uses Macs when I was used to PCs at home. The right click thing threw me for a loop, too. However, I just bought my own mouse (wireless & with a right click button & scroll-nothing too fancy), switched it with the one that came standard with my Mac and voila! Right click option again!! Works just fine for me :)
ReplyDeleteHope this helps!

If you have a Magic Mouse (apple) then you do have a right click function....you just don't see it as a separate button. You also have to change your settings I think to make it a "two button click", scroll down on this page and read the instructions: http://www.apple.com/magicmouse/
ReplyDeleteI place my two (index and middle) finger on the center top and if I click the middle finger I get the right click functions, index does normal left click stuff of course =) Hope that made sense. You can also swipe, etc to change screens. It just takes a while to get used to it.

I'm not too familiar with macs, I did use my sisters Mac laptop last year for a bit. I think them it was ctrl+click for the right click menu. I actually came to love her Mac that I REALLY want my own. Its very intuitive. just forget everything you know about computers and do what seems logical and it generally works! Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI have gotten so used to my mac I don't even know what to do when I go back to a PC!
ReplyDeleteHere are some of the most useful keyboard shortcuts that I use daily!
command+c = copy
command+v = paste
command+z = undo
command+shift+z = redo
command+shift+3 = screen shot of entire screen
command+shift+4 = select a portion to screen shot
shift+arrowkeys = move pictures around in PPT easily
Then, if you click on the little dashboard icon which is the black circle located next to the finder icon usually you can add all kinds of widgets such as calculator, weather, address book, etc. My favorite is the stickies. It's like a post-it note for the computer. I always save my blogging signature hyperlink there so that I can post it easily. And it's a really quick way to have a to do list on hand. Hope that helps!

Love my Macbook Air! (Thanks to my school district.)
ReplyDeleteScreen shot is SOOOOO much easier. Command+shift+4 for the screen shot where you set the size.

I only have Macs at home now and cannot live without mine! :) If you want a quick way to right click without a Magic Mouse you can hold own the CTRL key while clicking with the mouse. Hope this helps!

I am so used to my Macbook that now when I try to use a PC laptop I don't even know what to do!
ReplyDeleteHere are some of my most used shortcuts:
command+c = copy
command+v = paste
command+z = undo
command+ = zoom in
command- = zoom out
command+shift+3 = screenshot
command+shift+4 = select an area to screenshot
shift+arrowkeys = move images around in PPT
Another one of my favorite parts of the Mac is the dashboard. It's the little black circle usually next to the finder icon on the bottom of the screen. You can add all sorts of widgets. My favorite is the stickies widget. It's like post-it notes for the computer! I have to do lists, and important notes to remember. However, I use it most often for saving my blog hyperlink address for when I post comments.
Hope you found some new tips and really enjoy your Mac! It is really great once you get used to the switch! Let me know if you are ever stuck and need some help! I'd be happy to try and help you!

I have am iMac at school and love it! The best advice I can give is don't turn off the Bluetooth if you are using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. You will be unable to do anything because your mouse and keyboard will work. They only way I could get it to work again was to plug a USB mouse in and turn Bluetooth back on with it.
ReplyDeleteAnother tip that you will probably not use at home is to turn mirroring off to let kids do one thing while you work on something else. Maybe someone can use the tip.
