Happy BEE Day freebie and Monday Made Its

Yay It's Monday! I'm linking up with my friend Tara for Monday Made It.

Do you celebrate birthdays in your class? Kids LOVE their birthday! I’ll admit that I felt really special when my students and families threw me a surprise party. I’ve had surprise parties the past four years and it was really awesome.

Since birthdays are probably the most important day for little ones I wanted to come up with something neat to acknowledge their special day.

My plan is to have the birthday boy or girl wear this visor for the day. Happy BEE Day matches our classroom perfectly!

They will also get to pick a mystery card out of the bee bag pictured below. The card will have different special treats such as
lunch with the teacher
swap sits with a friend
no morning work

My next Monday Made it was a ribbon wreath. I'm definitely obsessed with ribbon. Last year I made ribbon garland and a deco mesh wreath. This year I made a ribbon wreath.
I purchased all supplies at Michael's. It's made from a foam wreath. All you do is use straight pins to pin down ribbon. Easy Peasy! Just beware your thumb will be sore.

My last Monday Made It was something I started last summer but keep adding on.
I can honestly say that behavior beads are one of the BEST things I added to my classroom management system over the past couple of years.  I use the Super Improver Wall and of course these Behavior Beads.

So what is a behavior bead?  A behavior bead is a necklace that each child receives and they work toward earning more tags/charms to display on their necklace. On the first day of school I give my students their own badge on a necklace.

I'm excited about these new behavior beads. I'll be giving the Happy BEE Day tag on their birthday. I'm loving the You knock my SOCKS off tag and 50th day tag.  If you'd like to be entered to win any three sets of my behavior beads just leave me any kind of comment with your EMAIL address.

I'm off to check out the other fabulous project! As always.. thanks Tara!

Only read below if you have questions about Behavior Beads

Questions about Behavior Beads

How do you display your necklaces?
Last year I had the tags on little hooks grouped by tables. I had four tables so each hook had about 5 necklaces.
In the past, I have displayed them on a large cork board. Each necklace hangs from a thumbtack with the student’s number above the thumbtack.

Here is a CD cabinet without the selves. I used this my first year as a Brag Tag holder.

When do your students wear their necklaces?
Each day, students wear their chains if they choose.  At the end of the day when they go pack up their belongings..they hang their Behavior Beads back on the hooks!  The next morning when students come in they are able to put on their chains first thing in the morning. I don’t make them wear the necklaces daily. Some love to and others prefer to keep them on the hook.  I’ve seen some teachers just allow students to wear necklaces on Fridays or assemblies. Again it’s up to you.

When do they earn tags?
Two years ago I used a behavior clip chart in my classroom and every time a student ended on OUTSTANDING they earned a jewel for their clip.  Once they had 5 jewels, they earned a behavior bead/tag/badge. Last year I used class dojo. Once they had 25 points they earned a new tag. I had many different levels of tags. I also gave out tags for mastering math facts, sight words, good handwriting, displaying good character traits, and many others.  If you are a Leader in Me school you may like these  FREE 7 Habits tags.

How do you know whose necklace is whose?
I number at least one tag. It’s usually the first tag I give them. However, this year I will be making a custom tag with each child’s name on it. Click here for programmable tags that you do yourself.

How do I implement them?
Simply print on cardstock, laminate and cut. I’ve made them very easy to cut. I used a paper cutter and it was so fast. I punch a hole using a small punch size found at Hobby Lobby ( $3.99)

Where do you store the extra tags?
You can buy a compartment storage container at Hobby Lobby or Michael’s. I love Tara’s picture.

Where did you find the chains?
You can find them at Etsy, online, and Hobby Lobby. I bought my chains at Hobby Lobby for $7.99. If you have coupon... it’s even cheaper.

  2. I love the bee visor! And I love your birthday ideas! I need to make sure I am more prepared for birthdays in my classroom! It is so hard to keep track due since my school is so transient. Plus many of my students don't know their own birthdays. Any tips?

  7. I love your wreath. I made one two years ago. Last year I just added more color to my previously black and white wreath to help it fit my new color scheme. I use behavior beads too. I used a bulletin board last year for a display. I had two classes using it. I need to find another way to hang them. Thinking about hooks on their display board but our bucket fillers also hang there.

  8. I'm hearing a Counting Crows song in my head... Up All Night! :) Looks like you've been busy! I love the wreath. You will have to help me make a nautical one... please??? And the bee visors are super cute too! Will they get to keep it? I have a really cute birthday hat that looks like a cake with candles out the top but I'm afraid to let them wear it one after another, if you know what I mean... no hat sharing at school.

Hope you're enjoying your summer! Looks like July4th was a ton of fun! We need to make a lunch date before the craziness begins again! :)

  15. I love the Brag Tags and you're definietly giving me something to think about, especially if I get to move to a lower grade level. The little bee bag, wreath, and visor are all precious! We're not allowed to have any food in our classrooms for birthdays, this would certainly make them feel special without getting a cupcake!

  19. I use your brag tags and the kids LOVE them. My students clip them on those silver "o" rings.
That wreath is you made is so incredibly cute! Did you just loop the ribbon and then pin it? That's a TON of work. I'll make sure to get a thimble if I do one for myself---thanks for the heads up! : )

  23. I'm moving up to fourth grade and have been really trying to think about my "discipline" routine. I love the idea of positive reinforcement. It's also a lasting artifact of all the things they've achieved throughout the year! These beads might be just what I need :)

  24. I love your ribbon wreath and I love your brag tags! Of course I had to buy this new set right away. This last year was my first year using brag tags with my 5th grade students and they loved them! I tried to set up different ways to earn different tags. This year I've been moved to 4th and will probably loop with them to 5th (our 4th grade followed their class to 5th) so I'm trying to get a 2 year plan figured out for our brag tags. Please keep them coming!!

  31. I'm in love with the bee visor and the choice cards for birthdays. I'm moving from 4th to 1st and I wanted a special way to celebrate birthdays and I think this is by far my favorite. Yay! So glad to get to mark that off my list of decisions to make. I've never used behavior beads but I think you've just converted me! It looks like something everyone can be proud of and something that will be easy for me to maintain. I don't want to get overwhelmed with a reward system/behavior management plan that I can't keep up with. I'm heading to your store now to check 'em out. Thanks for all the great tips!

  34. I use brag tags and LOVE them as an incentive and reward! My students keep them on the bracelet size chains and usually attach them to their backpacks. I love the idea of having a customized tag be the first one they get. If only we'd get our class lists sooner than the day before school starts!
