Documenting the Year

I'm excited for today's projects! Thanks Tara  for hosting my ALL-TIME favorite LINKY PARTY.

1st project- I made a  bee pointer for days we have fire drills. My leader will hold up this bee stick so our class can follow to the right spot. It will also be used when my students make a 100% on AR tests. They will be able to parade around the classroom with the wand.

2nd project- How do you document your student's progress, growth, etc? I love doing a writing portfolio along with a personal scrapbook for each child. I've been doing these for years but finally made one huge packet that covers every month. The individual pages can be used on a bulletin board as separate writing samples or combined and bound into a personal scrapbook. This School Days Scrapbook is a wonderful keepsake. My parents are extremely appreciative when I present them at our Author's Tea in May.

New Packet

This packet was created as an ongoing project designed for students to complete themselves or with the help of a teacher.  Basically each month students will document their journey as a learner.
Students may write add photographs, notes, draw pictures, add color, add stickers, etc.

3rd Project- Transportation Display

I can't wait to see everyone's projects. I am inspired by EVERYONE! Thank you all!

  4. I LOVE your transportation display! I'm going to "borrow" your idea and make one in my frog theme!

P.S. Our fishing place is in Horseshoe Beach in the bend just below the pan handle. However, we've been camping many times to St. Joseph's state park...LOVE it!!!

  7. Wow...too cute! That bee pointer is perfect. I love the "new way" of your scrapbook idea. I used to do the scrapbook thing years ago but quit when we weren't allowed to make color copies anymore :( Your way might just work.

  8. The bee pointer is fabulous! I am heading over to TPT to purchase your scrapbook unit. I used a generic one last year from BeckyHiggins.com (a scrapbooker) but this is ADORABLE!!

  9. How cute!! I LOVE all 3 projects!! Your transportatipn display is a must have and will be perfect when the office announces over the intercom that a student will ride the bus instead of being a car rider for the day - it will be so convenient to move a clip and keep "teaching on" and I wont have to keep up with a sticky note!!

One of my favorite school events? Valentine's Day; I love the excitement of all the kiddos and seeing all the creative homemade mailboxes!

  14. I have a tie for my favorite school event. It would be between our open house/ice cream social and our grandparents day. All the kids are so excited to see their teachers and friends and it is just a great day! We do our grandparents program on Veterans Day and our program/lunch is amazing. The kids are so excited too. :)

  15. I love your scrapbook idea! Super cute! I definitely want to keep a writing portfolio for students this year. Do you do an author's tea party? If so I would soooo love to talk to you about it! I have always loved the idea. My favorite school event has to be Halloween, or our version of it. We do a Books on Parade where each class chooses one book and dresses up as the characters in it. Then we all go outside and have a parade around the school showing off our outfits!

  16. Fun projects! I like the bee pointer for fire drills. Very wise. I also like your scrapbook idea. For the past few years I have put my kids scrapbooks in binders with page protectors. Your idea would work great with this. One of my favorite events is our Supply Drop Off/Meet the Teacher event to start the school year:)

  17. I love your scrapbook idea and am adding that to my to do list for my 4th graders! I also love how you made the transportation display and used ribbon to hold the pieces. I might do that for my welcome sign I made for Monday Made It instead of hole punching each piece:) Thank you for the inspiration!!

  19. I LOVE the bee pointer! What a great idea! I'll have to make one with one of the rainforest animals on the top! It can get super confusing with everyone outside for a fire drill! I also love your idea of incorporating scrapbook pages into their portfolios! I always put their first day of school picture and what they wrote on the first day along with a picture near the end of the year, but I love the idea of adding the pages in between!!! Such great ideas! Thank you for sharing!!! My favorite school event is something we call Inspiration Day. It's a day that our fabulous PTO puts together. Parents and volunteers from all over come to our school to host a class/activity for the day, things like chess, scrapbooking, wii, hockey, jump rope, dance, manicures, cooking, etc. The students pick 10 classes they'd like to do from the huge list and then they get 5 of those choices. Everyone gets a different schedule and on Inspiration Day, they follow that schedule. Even us teachers! It's a lot of work for the PTO making schedules for everyone in a K-8 building, but it's awesome and a welcome break near the end of the year. :)
